Newton, Massachusetts; March 6, 2012 – PeerApp, the leading provider of transparent caching platforms for Internet content delivery, today announced that its UltraBand platform was named as a finalist in the 2012 IP&TV Industry Awards, in the Best Network Technology award category. This recognition follows the recent naming of PeerApp as the transparent caching market leader by research firm Frost & Sullivan.
PeerApp’s UltraBand, the world’s most widely deployed transparent caching solution, helps network operators respond to the growing demand for video and other over-the-top content. It simultaneously accelerates content delivery and reduces network load by automatically detecting popular content and delivering it as close as possible to the subscriber.
UltraBand was chosen based on critical features that differentiate it from any other caching platform in the industry. It supports the widest range of content, including adaptive bitrate (ABR) video and peer-to-peer traffic. As a truly transparent solution, it ensures content freshness and preservation of end-to-end application logic. UltraBand is software-based and has been ported to a wide variety of network hardware platforms. It scales to hundreds of gigabits per second of traffic capacity with high availability. By integrating with existing network elements, it ensures cost-effective and operationally simple network deployments. As a result, UltraBand is increasingly being adopted by tier 1 fixed and mobile network operators as a way to gain control of content traffic on their networks and lay a foundation for their content delivery network (CDN) strategies.
“As operators contend with the surge in demand for high-bandwidth content, transparent caching has become an indispensable part of their network infrastructure,” said Robert Mayer, CEO, PeerApp. “We are honored to be recognized by the IP&TV judges for our leadership in this field.”
PeerApp will present the benefits of transparent caching for network operators at IP&TV World Forum, taking place at the Olympia Exhibition Centre, London, March 20-22. Charlie Baker, director of product management, will take part in the panel session “Enhancing OTT Video Quality – the role of adaptive streaming in video traffic optimization” on March 20 at 3:40 PM along with experts from Swisscom, Orange, BT and Deutsche Telekom. This session will explore how adaptive streaming technologies are emerging to support Internet video delivery.
PeerApp will also have a meeting room in the IP&TV World Forum exhibit hall, location MR23. Attendees wishing to meet with PeerApp executives can send details firstname.lastname@example.org.
The awards ceremony will take place on March 21, 2012 at the London Film Museum. Winners will be selected by a panel of expert judges from television, cable and the telecommunications industry. Further information on IP&TV World Forum 2012 is available at http://iptv-forum.com/.
