PeerApp Takes Top Honors for Video Delivery

Named by Frost & Sullivan as 2013 Global Transparent Caching Market Leader;
Named to Streaming Media Top 100 Companies List

NEWTON, MA – October 3, 2013 – PeerApp, the leader in content caching and delivery, has been designated by Frost & Sullivan as the 2013 global transparent caching market leader, with more than 350 mobile and fixed network operator customers and 27% market share. In addition, PeerApp was named to the Streaming Media 100, Streaming Media magazine’s list of the “100 Companies that Matter Most in Online Video.” An article on these companies is published in the publication’s October/November issue.

According to Frost and Sullivan’s 2013 Market Leader Profile “The company is witnessing continuous growth in revenue on the strength of its solutions within major service provider networks, and its status in the industry is augmented by the fact that the company is at the forefront of innovation and development in this industry. PeerApp has a global footprint and is well known in established, as well as upcoming, regional segments of the global transparent caching market.”

The study goes on to note that PeerApp is leveraging its wide acceptance and footprint toward new innovations like Content Service Extension (CSE), an open initiative that allows operators to monetize OTT content delivery by utilizing network caches on an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) basis. One example of the impact that operator-based caching can have was the recent iOS 7 update, in which PeerApp caches dramatically accelerated downloads for over ten million users worldwide within the first 24 hours of its release.

“As the number of companies in our space has grown, we’ve narrowed the purview of the Streaming Media 100 to focus exclusively on what we call ‘the enablers,’” says Streaming Media editor Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen. “The companies in the Streaming Media 100 are the technology leaders and innovators that make it possible for video publishers in all verticals—entertainment, education, enterprise, and government—to get their content to their viewers efficiently and effectively, and to maximize ROI to boot… These are truly the cream of the crop in our industry.”

“A fundamental change is taking place in the way people consume video and entertainment. The traditional ‘watching TV’ mode is being replaced by a one in which multiple devices – smartphones, tablets, TVs – are being used, sometimes all at once, wherever and whenever the consumer chooses. The selection of content is almost limitless, and the mode is interactive and social,” said Robert Mayer, CEO at PeerApp. “PeerApp is helping this ecosystem thrive in this new mode of consumption by improving the quality of the full experience. This recognition by Frost & Sullivan and Streaming Media is testament to our central role in this transformation.”
