PITTSBURGH, PA, July 13, 2011 -- WESCO International, Inc. (NYSE: WCC), a leading provider of electrical, industrial, and communications MRO and OEM products, construction materials, and advanced supply chain management and logistics services, announced that its subsidiary, TVC Communications, a leading distributor of broadband communication network infrastructure products, and PeerApp, the leading provider of transparent caching and content delivery platforms, reached an agreement by which TVC will offer PeerApp’s UltraBand product solutions throughout North and South America.
TVC Communications is successfully selling PeerApp’s UltraBand solution to operators who seek to improve end-user quality of experience and reduce network infrastructure and bandwidth costs associated with carrying “over the top” (OTT) video and peer-to-peer traffic. Video and file sharing traffic accounts for 81% of total consumer internet traffic today, according to Cisco Systems Visual Networking Index Forecast, 2010 to 2015.
“Our operator customers urgently need tools to help them manage the ever increasing capacity demands from video and OTT content”, said Jim Manari, responsible for leading the TVC Communication business. “With PeerApp, we will offer customers a best-in-class solution that scales from very small to large and complex deployments as their networks and traffic volumes grow.”
Operators who have already been served by the PeerApp-TVC relationship include NET-Fortaleza, a high speed internet service provider based in Brazil.
“As the value of transparent caching becomes widely acknowledged, we are constantly looking for more effective ways to deliver our UltraBand solution to network operators globally,” said Javier Jimenez, senior vice president and general manager, Americas, PeerApp. “WESCO’s and TVC’s presence across the hemisphere, combined with their deep understanding of network technologies, makes them an ideal partner to bring the benefits of our solution to operators of all types and sizes throughout the Americas.”
