PeerApp joins ETSI and its Mobile-edge Computing Group

PeerApp to demonstrate its new Mobile Edge Computing Solution at Mobile World Congress

BARCELONA, Spain – Mobile World Congress – March 02, 2015 – PeerApp, the market leader in helping operators accelerate delivery of Internet video and other over-the-top (OTT) content, announced today that it is joining ETSI, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, and will be an active member of its Mobile-edge Computing Industry Specification Group (ISG).

The Mobile-edge Computing (MEC) initiative was announced in October 2014 and is working toward a future standardized, open environment that will allow efficient and seamless integration of third-party applications across multi-vendor platforms. Mobile-edge Computing provides IT and cloud-computing capabilities within the Radio Access Network (RAN) in close proximity to mobile subscribers.

PeerApp recently announced an evolution of its current mobile core offerings to bring Internet content acceleration to the edge of mobile networks. The PeerApp Mobile Edge Computing solution will complement the existing PeerApp mobile core solution by bringing optimization functionality such as content caching and DNS (domain name server) caching to the RAN. PeerApp’s new Mobile Edge Computing solution, powered by Saguna, leverages Network Function Virtualization (NFV) to bring cloud and virtualization concepts to the RAN.  This allows applications to run as close as possible to the subscriber resulting in a Quality of Experience (QoE) for subscribers, a particular challenge with mobile video.

It was also announced today that PeerApp is a founding partner of the NFV.net Vendor Forum, a forum of leading technology vendors dedicated to fostering adoption of network functions virtualization (NFV) and promoting best-of-breed implementation practices through an NFV reference implementation in this rapidly emerging field.
