Building the Cache
- UltraBand P2P caches are deployed empty of content
- ISP subscriber makes a download request or is uploading a file
- Layer 7 redirector transparently redirects P2P traffic to UltraBand cache
- If file is not already in cache, UltraBand simultaneously acquires the file, caches and forwards the file to ISP subscriber or Internet user

Downstream Cache Out
- ISP subscriber queries P2P network and finds a file to download from a P2P user on the Internet
- ISP subscriber makes a download request. Layer 7 redirector transparently redirects P2P traffic to UltraBand cache
- UltraBand serves ISP subscriber’s request directly if file is already stored in cache hence saving bandwidth on the internet transit link
- UltraBand maintains the connection with the Internet user to maintain transparency

Upstream Cache Out
- Internet user queries P2P network and finds a file to download from ISP subscriber
- Internet user makes a download request. Layer 7 redirector transparently redirects P2P traffic to UltraBand cache
- UltraBand serves Internet user’s request directly if file is already stored in cache hence saving upstream bandwidth on the last mile
- UltraBand maintains the connection with the ISP subscriber to maintain transparency
